Investment returns

How your super performed during the December quarter.

Following on from the largely negative returns seen in the previous September quarter, December’s returns provided some much-needed positive returns to finish the year.  However, the annual returns for 2015 are lower than previous years.

According to SuperRatings, the average ‘Balanced’ option for Australian super funds was up 2.8% for the quarter, and 5.2% for the last 12 months*.

In ANZ Smart Choice Super, those options with higher exposures to growth assets fared better during the December quarter – with the 1980s and 1990s lifestage options in particular outperforming their industry benchmarks.  Share and property-specific options all delivered returns in excess of 5% for the quarter.  For more detail on the markets, read Stewart Brentnall’s latest outlook.
